About Lydia's Hungarian Strudel Shop

Learn More About Us

Since 1938, our family owned business has served old world, all hand stretched, quality strudels on countless tables, providing tasty treats for the entire family. Our freshly baked strudels make a great dessert for any meal, while our unbaked strudels just need to be popped into the oven (so easy, we give you the instructions!) to provide a hot and tasty pastry anytime.

What makes us different:
  • We hand stretch all of our strudel (check out the picture below)
  • We use the freshest and highest quality ingredients
  • We hand peel and use six different types of apples to make our famous apple strudel
  • We make all the delicious Hungarian desserts that your grandma used to make (check out the menu)

Our Story

"Our journey began in 1938 when my Great-Great Grandmother, Elizabeth, opened the 'Genuine Hungarian Strudel Shop' for business on E. 116th Street beneath St. Margaret's Hungarian Parish Church in Cleveland, Ohio. My Great-Grandmother, Emma, inherited the business, changed the name to 'Hungarian Strudel Shop', and moved the bakery to Buckeye Road near Orban's Flowers; which was known by locals as the "Old Hungarian Neighborhood." My Grandmother, Lydia, decided in 1980 to relocate to the west side on W. 130th Street across from Southland Shopping Plaza. Thus, 'Lydia's Hungarian Strudel Shop' was born. In 1993, the bakery was relocated to Stumph Road in Parma Heights where it remains today.

To all of our customers, we would like to say thank you for making this all possible, we have the best customers ever. Please feel free to stop in sometime and tell us your story of how long you've known us, as next year we will be celebrating our 80th year anniversary. We hope to see you soon!"
